摘要

Unicast IPTV services that can support live TV, video-on-demand (VoD), videoconferencing, and online gaming applications over broadband wireless cellularnetworks have been becoming popular in recent years. However, video streamingservices significantly impact the performance of wireless cellular networksbecause they are bandwidth hogs. To maintain the system performance, effectiveadmission control and resource allocation mechanisms based on an accuratemathematical analysis are required. On the other hand, the quality of awireless link usually changes with time due to the user mobility ortime-varying channel characteristics. To counteract such time-varying channelsand improve the spectral efficiency, adaptive modulation and coding (AMC)scheme can be adopted in offering unicast IPTV services for mobile users. Inthis paper, closed-form solutions for the bandwidth usage, blocking rate, anddropping rate of unicast IPTV services over wireless cellular networks werederived based on the novel queueing model that considers both user mobility andAMC. Simulations were also conducted to validate the accuracy of analyticalresults. Numerical results demonstrate that the presented analytical resultsare accurate. Based on the accurate closed-form solutions, network providerscan implement precise admission control and resource allocation for theirnetworks to enhance the system performance.
